Heath Ceramics — MOSAIC Workshop Part II

Well well, Sunday is 2nd day of the Mosaic Workshop. The night before, when I got home, I was sooooo tired. I didn't know that making mosaic is soooo exhausting. So I called it an early night to get ready for Sunday.

Before I reveal my masterpiece, I would liek to share some pictures of the impromptu tour of the ceramic factory that Lisa decided to give us.

See all the silly teapots they made for fun.
I put my hand in there! All the plates now have my *mark*!
Traditional dryer
A silicon mold

They made that bowl by hand.
So many neatly stacked, waiting to be colored or glazed.
Another drying process in a heated room.
All white. So pretty. I wanna take some home
plates galore.
In the foreground are color plates where they test and blend colors to create new ones.

Okay, So the second day, after the first round dried. It is time to GROUT! It is a messy process. So we need the gloves and aprons and even a mask because it is hazardous to inhale grout when it is in its powder form. I chose black grout to make my main image pop out.

Just rub it in a circular motion, filling in the gaps.

TADAH!!!

I hope you guys love it. I had a lot of fun, despite feeling really worn out. It was great. Now I want to work in a ceramics factory like HEATH and just make those pretty bowls and plates all day. I wonder if I can be so patient.

To my surprise! I didn't even buy a single thing at the store. I am so proud of myself. A freaking bowl, after discount, costs about USD $40. ARGH. It hurts. But just because it was so beautiful. Well, I think I only get to appreciate the ceramics after touring the factory and learning how they function. Each and everyone of those ceramics is made with love, and I can fondly rememeber when I use one. Well, next time, when I win next week's lottery or something.

ciao.

Heath Ceramics — MOSAIC WORKSHOP!!!

I was glad to find out that the local fabulous ceramics factory is holding a Mosaic workshop! I love Mosaics. When I open my cafe, I want the walls and tabletops to be all mosaics. And also the bathroom of my future home! Isn't it going to be so awesome!!!

Yay!!!

It is a 2 days workshop, taught by Lisa, who also works at Heath. And their stuff are all so exquisite (and pricey!). It's all handmade and all made in the old school, traditional style. PLs visit their website to read more.

So I picked up L who joined me in this exciting adventure. And finally I got to step inside. The shopaholic in me wants to buy everything in the store when we got there.

But we had to attend the class first, so I exerted my self-discipline, very strongly.

There was vintage Eames chairs stacked in corners. I love this place even more now.

Looking around to pick our very own private stash. We even got to use the really high-quality Heath tiles (included in the cost of this workshop).
My goodies.
This part lets me hammer out all the frustrations of the past hectic work weeks.

Our work stations. Had to be standing the whole day. the 12 x 12 concrete slab is what I will be working on. More suitable for a garden step but I decided to do a center piece for my coffee table.
Piece by piece. These round Pennies are shorter than the usual tile so I have to stack an additional piece of mirror plus the cement to have an even height with the tiles I will be using later.

My masterpiece in the works.

L's beautiful floral arrangement.

So we are going to be doing the grouting tomorrow. Then I shall reveal my astonishing piece to the world and behold! You may be blinded.

Wish me fun tomorrow!

And also, I decided I HAVE to do some shopping there, since there's a lot of discounted stuff at the factory store.

p.s. Today marks my 6th year anniversary in San Francisco.

This and this would be appropriate.

Maybe this will help

The title intrigued me to click on the post to read furthur.

Deadbeat dads? Males cost cheaper than Females?

I wonder.

You gotta love Craig's List.

The day the music died...

Today is Jimmy's last day at work. It is official, I will be an orphan at work officially on Monday onwards.

We HAD to go to his fav. Taco Bell for lunch.

He divided up his beloved treasure grove of 80s' music for me and S.

We are going to get ignorant tonight at the Elbow Room.

Nothing can stop me now.

A-di-dasssssss

hey there,

Believe it or not, I have been working. *cough* I finally got to work on something that I like. It is not a big project, but looking at THREE STRIPES all day gets me going good.

We're just pitching for some business, this is only the first round. But getting the chance to work on the presentation is a joyride. Especially when I get to do all the design/artwork, I don't call this work anymore. *cough cough* I am taking it very personal.

So till Thursday night, I will send this baby off to Portland and see how it goes. Winning the business or not will not affect me. My mind is set on leaving. Thus, this serves as the greatest farewell gift PD can give me right now. Well, if only I get to go to Portland and roam around freely in the Land of the Giant Striped Flowers. AAaaaaaaahhhhhhh.....*cough*.....I heard the peeps themselves all gear up to go to work...

I'll leave you with one of my fav print ads from A. May I be granted the strength and wisdom to do something as great one fine day...

*cough*

Ciao babes!

Missy X

p.s. Wish me better health too *cough* Argh!

Asian Sensation @ my crib

The grumpy, needs-to-get-laid neighbor + the fireman with the long balls + the cops!!!

WHAT A ROCKING PARTY WE HAD!!!

It was my turn to host the Grubbers' Monthly at my place. I chose the Asian theme(of coz), as I am one of the rarest Asian member of this tribe. Everyone brough a homecooked Oriental dish. I finally got to make the Prima Taste Singapore + Indonesian Satay. Had to marinate the meat for mroe than 6 hours and then grill it in the oven. Totally worth it coz it tastes almost like the real thing.

19 Freaking people managed to squeeze into my less than 500 sq. feet studio apt. It was an accomplishment. I felt that it was the right group of people, in the right kinda place, with the right kinda food and the kinda intoxicating materials.

I was so drunk and high and have no concept of the time. The funny and annoying thing is my stupid basement neighbor started complaining about us from 7 pm, while we were playing Wii. Then he subsequently knocked on my door twice to tell us to shut up. I let the fiercer (read=bigger built) people answer the door and hid in the back sniggering. We slammed the door back in his face and he couldnt take it anymore and reported to the police.

Before the cops came TWICE(!!!), a friend whose a fireman called his good co-workers to bring his boombox from the station as he was complaining about my music. So a firetruck came parking right outside my apt and 4 firemen knocked on my door. One was wearing the tightest overalls I have ever seen in my life, and I let him know what I thought. He blushed. They refused to join us as they're officially working. So I walked them out and yelled my Goodbyes on the street, grinning like a mad woman. I wished I had my camera with me.

I can't recall the cops parts, but I was told they came by twice(my friends officially declared this a cool party because of that). And well, that explains why the party has to disband by 12 o'clock.

FOr the next THREE, yes, THREE days, I had the worst hangover of my life. It is those that you think they are gone then they come back again, everytime. I ran a fever, cough, sorethroat and splitting headaches. AWESOME. It just meant that I had a blast.

Hiya!

She sits there like she is one of us humans, chilling in the worm bowl.

Details to come.

My First American Baby Shower

One of my favorite Creative Directors (CD) is preggers. I have been calling her Mommy since Day One so that she can get used to it. (just for fun ok, my dear real mom? Don't get jealous!)

She is due maybe in a month's time and she has been a real trooper coming to work regardless of her baggage.

The thing is, Americans all love to have baby showers before the baby is born. Most of them are all girly and the attendees are usually for women only. But this is a cool lady so we had a good time - there was even a keg!

They own a house in the Marins (read=snotty rich yuppie people's area), but they are not snotty. So enjoy these pics of her place. She has a huge garden and all. Which is nice.

Oh by the way, all her other guests re like married couples and/or with kids. And there was a lot of hot dads. Young hot dads. Not fair.

I made this souvenir tee. Cute?

Combo of everyone's efforts. They provided the blank white tees and fabric paints. Great idea!
